Where are all the trash talkers now?

6-3. We dominated. No one I went to High School with is calling me or invading my facebook wall to tell me how awful Buffalo is or how amazing the Capitals are.
Just back to the good ol’ days where we always blowout the Caps. Every. Single. Time.
A real retro night

Seeing the Sabres wear their retros on the road for the 1st time really gave a feel of authenticity to them that I haven’t felt while seeing them at any point this season.
If you’ll remember, the road team used to always wear the dark uniforms until 2003-04. I hate the change to this day (move made to increase jersey sales only).
I remember as a 7 year old watching Mogilny and LaFontaine and Hawerchuk skating down the ice of the Montreal Forum in these jerseys…and that made me very happy.
But there was a game too last night. Sabres played a real solid game, leaps and bounds from their Florida performance. Montreal came at them with one of their best efforts and still only got a point out of it.
Kudos to Vanek for the slapshot in the shootout. No one saw that coming.
Next game is Tuesday where (according to Rick Jeanneret) Jimmy Hoffa lives…the Meadowlands.
Gotta love the DC-BUF trash talkin’

See, I know the loss to the Caps tonight is no big deal in the grand scheme of things but It’s big to me because when the Bills or Sabres lose to Redskins or Capitals I have to hear sooooo much from my High School dudes. Par example, mon facebook…

“yoyoyo muthaa fuckkkkaaa
i just went to DC paid 3 times face vsalue of a ticket off the street and watched the WASHINGTON CAPITALS
A) beat the sabres 7-4
B) board brier into the wall and take him out for 5 minutes
C)watch afiniganov get kicked to his ass and then take the puck up the ice and score
D)the 5 minute major to ove that you guys converted for 1…read one…goal was well worth it to see brier lying in a heap of pain
E)ryan miller the so called best goalie in the league was proved to be a sophmore nothing who has no right in the nhl as he gave up 3 in 7, then yanked.
F)biron proved himself to be quiet the backup giving up another 3
dude i love you, the sabres time though sweet was short and now over, maybe miller can go back and finish high school now because he cant be more then 17 years old. go caps, you know your a washington boy at heart
and im looking forward to your blog entry on this loss to the caps btw, somake it as good one!”
…the call might have been even better jeez. So basically screw the cup, get this season series lol.
Yup, did it again

So basically I’m gonna try to use this same sentence for each game for the rest of the year….
“Sabres win in shootout”
Could have saved me a lot of typing this fall.
Welcome back!

Wow, first day back in Buffalo and I’m rewarded with maybe the most exciting Bills game of the year followed by a clutch overtime win by the Sabres in MSG.
It was only four days but boy I missed it!
What else is there to say?

7-2.
We’re amazing. Maybe the greatest team to ever take the ice in the history of the NHL if we do this through June.
Wow.
Sabres weekend

Tonight was a bit tough. Lost to Ottawa 4-1 in a game in which we didn’t look our best. 2nd period was meh and there were a lot of turnovers on our end but was still tied at 1. Heatly scored a nice one and Phillips had a breakaway goal out of the penalty box to ice it. (His only goals this year are in his last 2 games against Buffalo). Ryan Miller came back and looked good but not great. It’s okay. Even the Sabres are allowed to lose every once in a while.

Friday night’s game was possibly the most solid (non-blowout) outing the Sabres have had all season. Took the lead and never looked back. For once, Biron stepped up and became a game breaker and Vanek and Afinogenov owned. Drury snapped his long goaless drought and the penalty killing was sweet (Killed a 1:35 2-man advantage)
Biron went back to the plain white mask apparently because he’s played terribly in the games he had his new fancy one. It worked.
Next game is Monday against Tampa in downtown Buffalo
Can’t win ‘em all

Oh well. Sabres couldn’t tie it up with a power play in the last 2min of the game and the Senators iced it with a rink-length shot into the empty net.
Biron wasn’t too bad but he just isn’t a gamebreaker…never was. That’s pretty much the big difference between him and Miller.
PS..Wicked slapshot from Briere. WHOA.
Next game Friday home v. Pittsburgh. Should be a wild game
Everything is relative

I love talking to all these Sabres fans who are really (and i mean really) upset and concerned about
1. the team’s overall play of late
2. biron (”I MISS MILLER, WE NEED HIM BACK ASAP!!”)
3. the defense (”AUGH WE’RE SO SOFT. WE’RE CRAP WITHOUT TALLINDER AND LYDMAN!”)
4. afinogenov (”AAAA WE NEED MAX BACK REALLY SOON!”)
Okay, lets look at the standings…
15 wins
1 regulation loss
1 overtime loss
31 points
1st in the conference
#1 offense in the NHL
Soooo lets just enjoy the fact that we have ONE loss and it’s almost Thanksgiving. Because believe me, we’ll miss these days soon enough
Different opponent-same result
Friday night…5-4 in OT
Saturday night…5-4 in OT
Biron gave up eight goals in back to back nights and the team blew a two goal lead in both but it didn’t really matter. Why is that? Cuz we’re the fricken Buffalo Sabres. We just don’t know how to lose a game.
Good sign in tonights game was that we played a team who tried to distract us by starting fights which just doesn’t seem to happen much in the NHL anymore…but we held our own in the duels although I kinda sorta dont want to see Paetsch fight too much.
Next game Monday at Carolina.
