Eight is great!

This game was pretty easy. For once we played a genuinely bad team and it showed. Once again that Vanek-Roy-Afinogenov line fricken dominated and Biron played a solid game, getting better as the game went on. Honestly, this is the best hockey team I’ve ever seen play-and I’ve seen a lot of hockey. So fast, so smart, so determined…mmmmm delicious!
Next game Monday at Montreal @730
Can’t stop, won’t stop

Ooooweee! Sabres did it again tonight, beating Carolina for the second time this year,5-4. Vanek who has been solid so far this year, took his game to a whole other level practically dominating the Canes in the 3rd period. He had a goal and an assist and drew two penalties towards the end of the game. While last year he was productive he was not coming close to his potential most of the time…perhaps this year will be what we expected out of him.
Afinogenov had 3 points which gives him 12 in 7 games. Not too shabby.
Miller was eh. Stopped 17 shots. Hopefully Biron gets the start tomorrow
At Boston 7pm
7-0! 12 straight wins…team record!
Come to the Martin House tomorrow

Why?
Because I’ll be working there 12:30-3 and it gets lonley in the gift shop.
So if you want a Frank Lloyd Wright puppet, or a book, or just a tour tomorrow…you gotta come to me in the gift shop.
1pm tour spots available.
Andy Stochansky

Haven’t posted much music stuff latley…
He might not be a Buffalonian, but he sure has some serious Buffalo connects.
Andy Stochansky was mostly known for being Ani Difranco’s drummer through the 90’s but has persued a solo career.
His latest album “100″ is produced Goo Goo Dolls lead singer John Rzeznik and Goo Goo drummer Mike Malinin drums in the album and that Goo Goo Dolls influence is pretty clear.
A easy listening, catchy pop album is the best way to describe “100″ with pretty much every song being a foot/finger tapper. If you like mellow popish rock, his albums “Five Star Motel” and “100″ will please you to no end.
Thanks to his time spent with Difranco and Rzeznik, he knows his Buffalo…
“Had a beautiful sunny day of visiting the Albrightknox Gallery being inspired and suprised and moved in all directions like a good gallery should do.
Had no idea they had some of Joseph Cornell’s boxes in their collection and wanted to stand in front of that glass case that held them for hours.
Leave to have a Thai feast served by a woman with sparkles on her finger nails and this reminded me we were back in Buffalo
Last night we played an amazing show in this town where i met people that drove from all kinds of surrounding cities.
The people up at the front who finished singing the lyrics to “Hear Nor There” made my week and will be a memory from this tour that i will carry with me for a while.
Went over to New World Records to thank them for putting a poster of me in their window. Amazing people.
Thank you Buffalo!”
His CD’s are hard to find and I think I got the only copy of “100″ at New World Records (only place I’ve seen it sold)
Other music news…”As Tall As Lions” are one of my favorite Indie bands out there and are playing at the Icon tonight. Good mix of piano into some banging guitar into some solid vocals. So if you’re into that kind of stuff, go for it…$14.
NewEra HQ’s Update…10.19.06

Bad news, NewEra is getting black windows for the new addition to the old federal trsut building. After looking at the drawings of the building last January on BuffaloRising I read a comment saying that everything BNHT does seems flashy at first but ends up dissapointing and after seeing the black windows I agree (UB Student Union comes to mind).
The windows on the rest of the building are a neat shade of sky blue and having either completley clear or light blue tinted windows would welcome pedestrians and let everyone see clearly whats going on. The black tint doesn’t do that at all, and that’s where the NewEra hat store is going to be…don’t you want people to see the inside of the store a little better?
Hmm, I’ve been bitching out all the buildings I posted on today. It’s not that bad, Mark! It’s not that bad, everyone! It’s nice to see a nice amount of development projects going on downtown. We might see a little slump in construction once these are done outside of some public projects like the Federal Courthouse and $15million dollars worth of ECC buildings downtown and maybe even BassPro and the other buildings that will complement the project.
Hopefully Paladino gets the 2nd Waterfront condo up as well as the McGuire building in ‘07…I don’t wanna run out of photo options!
EDIT: Oh wait, Greystone Hotel, Statler, and AM&A’s are gonna be renovated too…so I guess I will stay busy afterall
Ellicott Commons 10.19.06

The new ones being built will look just like the ones that already exist to their left when facing the East side from Main. I didn’t take a picture but what it will look like is two dark brick buildings with a fenced off alley that serves as a intimate patio area which could make the residents social with each other but the fence pretty much says “I like the city, buttttt only under certain circumsances” But that’s the case with a lot of the residencies being built downtown.
Buffalo has a lot of urban fears and preconcieved notions to overcome. To get wealthy people in the downtown core you have to make them feel safe, maybe once everyone feels that downtown is safe we’ll see some more open residencies that embrace downtown a little more.
285 Delaware 10.19.06

Beams coming up at a nice pace, building is starting to take shape. Should be a unique looking building. Not awesome, but better than a lot of the smaller office buildings downtown has seen over the last 40 years.
100 Seneca construction 10.19.06

Little dissapointed…walking by the ballpark I saw some dudes painting the wall facing Pilot Field instead of putting windows back in like they did on the other 3 sides. The most important side of the building is going to be the bleakest and ugliest…unless they’re messing with me and are just painting the walls for fun. Building is still an overall improvement obviously and I’m curious to see what they end up doing with the clock/thermometer thats been out of service since ‘99. Paladino and Ellicott Development blow it again when it comes to the appearance of their projects.
Dayyyumn

Ummm yeah we pretty much kicked Philly’s ass tonight like whoa. Wearing the retros on national TV, the whole squad showed up from start to finish (something we haven’t done much yet) and embarassed the Flyers tonight. Afinogenov had five points, Vanek had four, and Miller had over 30 saves.
Tied team record for most consecutive wins (11)
Next game is at HSBC Arena vs. Carolina. Friday at 8.
At least no one saw it

No seriously, no one saw it…look at the picture. Okay, 500 people.
38-31 to a struggling Miami (OH) squad, which means a 1-5 record for the Bulls heading on the road for the next 3 games.
We’re losing like we always have, but at least we look better when we lose…kinda.
My roomates and I went because it was “mini-helmet” day and ummm the mini-helmet was a bit too mini…kinda fits the thumb nicely.
Oh yeah, Gary Rice was suspended for a game by the team (think that has anything to do with previously mentioned desire for an orgy?…just sayin’)
