Wow. So on BuffaloRising there is this one guy named “L”. He responds to everything. I also believe he is the same man on the CRTC site who said we should all hunt down and decapitate members of the NFTA. But I digress.
He doesn’t just respond. He takes things personally and retalliates with very very very long detailed letters…and then goes ALL CAPS ON YOUR ASS. We love him…not so much.

I made the mistake of….LEAVING A COMMENT on BR today saying that its okay that Rochester got a center for excellence in something because they’re struggling even more than Buffalo so its okay they get something too. Sadly this meant an all out assult.

So I quote…

“Mark & Fargo how magnanimous of you to spread Buffalos economic future around the state but before you do may I recommend that you search to find out that Rochester has multiple Centers for Excellence while Buffalo has only one!

So please explain to everyone why you think that Rochester deserves a NATIONAL CENTER FOR EXCELLENCE IN ROCHESTER when NYS’s Center is in Syracuse and when Buffalo has more companies than Rochester and Syracuse involved in Material Science, Power Generation and Distribution and Alternative Energy.
Please explain why NYSs Center is in Syracuse but Hillary Clinton wants a National Center in Rochester! Will you not demand fairness, self respect, dignity for your hometown Buffalo! Have you no backbone to fight for your cities economic rights and future!
Why do I call Hillary Clinton a pig in a dress? Because look at how she wants to give the golden egg of yet another Center for Excellence to Rochester while ignoring Buffalo…..and here is where the pig part comes in….look at the pork she has delivered to her constituents who voted for her in Buffalo COMPARED TO THE PORK SHE HAS PUT IN HER OWN CAMPAIGN FUND NOT JUST FOR HER RE-ELECTION AS SENATOR BUT HER RUN FOR THE PRESIDENCY! …so yeah I say that a certain commenter on BR hasn’t gotten laid in a while.

So my friend recieved an email from her roomate for the fall. Here’s how it goes….

Hey….I just went to south campus with andrew for the first time, and i went to clement. ive basically been miserable ever since i saw it….im really not comftorable living there, its not really in the location that i thought it was in in the least bit….im like freaking out about going back to school….do u think there would ever be a way we could transfer onto north campus?”

This is annoying. That neighborhood has benn a part of my life since I was born. I only know of one incident that wasn’t related to personal beef between two parties. And at UB there have been a few isolated incidents over the years but none involving people in their dorms with the “scary men” lurking around.

God damn. This is what can happen when you live in a sheltered white suburbanite community downstate all your life. Hopefully my friend makes her stay there and perhaps she’ll realize living in a black neighborhood isn’t so bad. Cuz I’m pretty sick of people hating on my neighborhood.

UB basketball great, Turner Battle, has faded off our radars since he left for Europe but never fear…not only is he doin his thang in Sweeden, he’s partying it up in the offseason back in the states…

Most cities have press conferences when a certain issue takes the forefront of the discussion of our lives. Taxes, proposed projects, crime, etc. But in Buffalo we say “pfff” to that petty stuff

“LIKE, OMG. THE SABRES HAVE A NEW LOGO THAT I HIGHLY DISLIKE. STOP EVERYTHING!”

So Larry Quinn took the podium to calm our fears by announcing that we will also be wearing our traditional blue uni’s for a dozen or so games and that the logo/uniform unveiled on the interenet is incomplete. In any other city in America this press conference would have never happened. Besides, its not like we have any real issues in this city anyway, right?

This one focuses on the proposals for 878 Main street in the medical corridor. ZepoMetrics wants to buy this building and use it for company expansion. Another wants to make it apartments that appeal to the medical campus students. For the 1st time that I can remember, a development issue on BR gets the actual people involved to comment. Thorough, insightful comments.

But of course, there are…THE OTHERS.

Amidst all the maturity and seriousness of these developers discussing their proposals at greater length as well as a scientist from the area adding his three or four cents, some people turned it into a 6th grade “he said, she said”

Danny Briere won his arbitration case...5million this coming season! Kind of redonk for a guy who missed half the season. I think most people were expecting 3.5-4.5 Well regardless, this means Briere is a gonner. Golisano has no problem wasting millions in his ridiculous campaigns for governor but is quite the penny pincher as Sabres owner.
Rumor has it he's going to Calgary or Washington. Both teams have productive centers who can fit the Sabres' budget for a couple years.

Even though this case was settled by an arbitrator, his salary is based on other players salaries who recieved those contracts from the same owners who whined and moaned that the players were making too much. Now we have a salary cap, but the owners are doing the same stupid stuff again. As long as NHL profits are solid, the cap will continue to go up. And as long as stupid owners with big pockets dish out $4 mil for a defensive defenseman like Jay McKee, teams like Buffalo will be forced to pay 3mil for an underachieving defenseman like Jaroslav Spacek (welcome to Buffalo by the way!).

NFTA says they reached a handshake agreement with Uniland and it should be official in 30 days. Good. But i like to complain too…I mean come on, I’m from Buffalo!

1. Uniland builds crap. Typical suburban office park crap. I’ve seen their entire portfolio. It sucks. Corporate Parkway next to UB Amherst is okay for what it is (Suburban office park)

2. Our downtown is underdeveloped. Skyline has barely changed since 1970. Lots of surface lots, especially the part of town behind the HSBC Tower. Soooo if we can’t get those lots developed, are we really going to get the Outer Harbor developed?

Regardless, the Outer Harbor is frickin depressing and its good something is gonna happen there. I hope they do it right. But unless the light rail goes out there and we get a pedestrian bridge to there the developments will be few and far between.

NFTA is in the news again. Looks like they’re closing in on a deal with landing a cargo and a passenger carrier from Europe (MartinAir) and EuroFly-a passenger carrier from Italy. Previously, China Air and a low cost carrier from Vegas was interested too.

Okay. Cool. But I still have never read an explanation of why Buffalo-NIAGARA international can’t just extend their runway to get these flights. Last time I checked, we’re pretty gosh-darn close to the Falls and we already have a good sized, beautiful, landmark airport, ready for expansion. I think its ridiculous to have two airports in such a region.

Anyone care to explain to me why I’m wrong?

Today UB unveiled their new look which replaces an already decent looking logo of a blue Buffalo with a pierced nose.
This one looks even better although the “Buffalo” script has a cheesy mid-conference wannabe cool look. But all in all its good. Not to mention the helmets are losing the horns and bringing back the interlocking U and B. Classy. Hopefull not only do we look nice but we play nice too next year.

With a new AD coming from a solid athletic program (Michigan), a new football coach who used to quarterback Nebraska, a new athletic center for the football team, a new playing surface, and now a new look- UB is making an effort to trun the football program like never seen before…hopefully it turns out as planned.
