Only In Buffalo..(Throwback news)

Ive been waiting on this story about buffalo + and one china man for way too long…
NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (AP) - A Chinese performance artist appeared in city court Monday for wading naked into the rapids above Niagara Falls as part of a stunt that went wrong.
He Yun Chang, 38, of Beijing, was charged with disorderly conduct and exposing himself in public, both violations, after being arrested by Niagara Park Police on Saturday afternoon. He was ordered to return to court Nov. 4.
Police said the man stripped off his clothes and waded to within 40 to 50 metres of the brink of the falls. He tried anchoring himself with a rope to an unknown object, intending to stay in the water for 24 hours, but the knot came loose and so he began making his way back to shore.
A tourist, concerned the man was attempting suicide, called park police, who took him out of the water.
Two University of Buffalo students who were filming the stunt also were charged with disorderly conduct.
Chang, who on Friday sat naked in a Plexiglas box full of wet concrete in front of a Buffalo art gallery as part of another stunt, is in the United States for a University at Buffalo exhibit called The Wall: Reshaping Contemporary Chinese Art.

Why wasnt this shit top story on the local news? This man has potential to become a underground hero in B-Lo.

HealthNow New York Update

Here’s an article on the new
office downtown.
“We want this to literally be a shining light in an array of lights in downtown Buffalo,” said Dennis Gorski, HealthNow vice president of government programs.”
…it sounds good and sounds better than what I originally heard about a bland office park being built on the site for them. I’m not so sure about how an eight story office building can fufill Gorski’s quote, but I’ll take his word for it.
Here is to progress!

Well it sounds like we’ll finally hear something about Bass Pro coming here next month, and see some physical progress too (or at least be told about it). It sounds like it will be an interesting project but lets be serious-we’re not going to get people from 200-300 miles away because of some uber-fishing store.
It’s not like anyone else is champing at the bit to do something with the Aud so we might as well get this done. Its not so much the Fishing apparel thats goin to change the city, but the spin-off businees that comes in as a result of this store. I hope there actually is spin-off business from it. I for one am dying for a damn Barnes and Noble downtown.

Well, I guess i should have expected this from the Buffalo News…

Seriously, I ride the metro a lot, and I love Buffalo to death but some of the stuff she says…
“Classical music adds an elegant calm. The trains and stations are spotless, and they’re beautiful. The Amherst Street Station, for instance, sports a mural of arts-and-crafts homes.”
…um, the Amherst station is one of the wierdest looking stations, it looks like they decided to put ugly, outdated drwaing of houses on a wall. The classical music, yeah just imagine how wierd you feel standing for a train at the Summer/Best station at 11pm with some rugged looking Buffalonians you don’t know in a not-so-pretty area, and then to top things off, you have classical music playing at a cheap looking metro stop. Its more eerie than beautiful.
I will say the meto does serve a purpose if you live off Main Street and you need to go further down Main (especially places on main that don’t allow cars, of course) but other than that, us Buffalonians have the right to make fun of it all we want.
Keep On Truckin’

Beautiful preformance last night by Biron, making 40 saves. Goals by Connolly, Kotalik, and Campbell (yes, he IS scoring this year!). Sabres move into 3rd place now, still faaaar away from Montreal and Ottawa. Kalinin is back to his lazy ways and because of that, he has been scratched again. Besides that, Pyatt is out with a hand fracture for a while so Pominville will fill in for a while, speaking of injuries…
Briere-day to day
Dumont- injured reserve
Pyatt- probably a month
Noronen- day to day
Miller- about 2 weeks
…but despite that, we’re 13-9-1 with the 6th seed in the conference! Not too shabby.

First, a beautiful building on Main Street, then, an office in the UB Commons…

…sorry i don’t know how to make links on this site yet
…and a shout out to Evan Pierce (aka EPP to the Buffaloists out thre) for being quoted in the article!
Tale Of Two Cities
My flight from Buffalo to Baltimore has us fly over both harbors…

…this is Baltimore in case you are that dillusional.
yeah, we got some work to do.
Danny Gare Night

We haven’t seen a jersey be retired in Buffalo in a long time, therefore, I suggest you get your ass over to the HSBC Arena tonight to see Sabre great, Danny Gare, get his #18 put up in the rafters next to the French Connection and Tim Horton. There is also a hockey game after that in case you didn’t know. The Sabres take on the hot hot hot (*no homo*) Jaromir Jagr and the rest of the NY Rangers

for the 2nd time this year. Mika Noronen is going to get the start again after a great game against Boston. I will not be there because of insufficeint funds and a family dinner before I go to Maryland for the week.
As usual…plenty of good seats still availible.
Just A Thought

After driving back from Canada over the Peace Bridge back to Buffalo, I realized that beauty that is the sight of the Buffalo skyline at night is hard to match.
