So yesterday I mentioned how I wish my little Main/Bailey corner would clean up and then my favorite Burger King closes. Keep in mind it is a depressing store with no one in there most of the time…but a functioning BK is better than an abandoned one…speaking of that…former UB Professor and famed French Philosopher, Michel Serres

(member of the prestigious Acadamie Francaise and currently a Professor at Stanford) used to live near this Burger King and had this to say in reference to the Main and Bailey intersection…
(I paraphrase)

“To this day whenever I pick up one of my books I can still smell the burgers and hear the cars driving over the potholes”

Elmwood, Chippewa, and HERTEL! It is nice to see that slowly, but surely, the hot spots are getting closer to my hood (aka University Heights). So lets get crackin on Bailey Ave. and the UB part of Main.

So the Goo Goo Dolls’ new album release is being postponed again until early 2006

…keep in mind they haven’t releasea a studio album since Spring ‘02 and originally planned having one released in the Summer of 2004! So this new one better be their best one yet…

I am taking a little break out of my vacationing to mention something I just saw. Innocently watching the MLB Baseball game,

I see no one else but Buffalo’s own Brian McKnight

singing the National Anthem…and may I mention it was quite amazing. He kept it simple and didn’t try to be all fancy and make himself the scene while singing that classic song.

Needless to mention, there is no one from Buffalo in the midsummer classic (only because Dave Hollins retired)

Well, Buffalowing43 (me) will be vacationing in the slightly cooler (only temperature wise) Miami, FL

Okay…so it looks like Waterfront stuff is going to get done in the next couple of years. Then again, we think that every year, but since Brian Higgins took charge, it seems as if it has become much more of an urgent issue. So now we have an official local company overseeing its development, with aide from Schumer and crew (but not too much).

Here are some of the key points in the development…

The key projects that would fall under the new corporation’s purview include:

• The $123 million Bass Pro Outdoor World store.

• The $46 million redesign of the Erie Canal Harbor.

• The proposed $750 million multi-use development of the outer harbor.

• The $32 million redesign of Route 5 and Fuhrmann Boulevard to enhance access to the outer harbor waterfront.
(according to the Buffalo News)

…I’m pretty excited. I feel that Schumer is actually looking out for WNY, and I am more and more impressed with Brian Higgins every day. Last year there was a study conducted that stated that Buffalo would be one of the more thriving cities in Amercia in ten years. While that doesn’t seem to make much sense, it seems as if Buffalo could be a much more popular place to be. All we need is to get that darn waterfront to shake what it’s mama gave it.

According to the Buffalo News…

“The giant sporting goods chain (Bass Pro) has been growing increasingly impatient in its negotiations with the state to reach a final contract to turn Memorial Auditorium into a Bass Pro store, according to sources close to that deal. Relationships have eroded so severely in recent months over the slow pace of discussions that Morris considered pulling the plug on the Buffalo store, sources said.”

…we almost had another coulda, shoulda, woulda with the Bass Pro Shope which seemed official already. Just another reminder as to why nothing gets done in Buffalo, and also to never believe that something good is going to happen in Buffalo until it actually happens.
